Contrary to what you may think, there is ZERO difference between OEM glass for the HUD and other well reputed brands. I have HUD and have cracked my windshield twice.... Both repairs were done through SAFELITE which GEICO reccomended. Though I initially insisted on OEM glass, the cost differential was significant and I went with safelite. I can't even tell the difference now and, IN FACT, the safelite glass used is STRONGER and MORE RESISTANT to scratches. I get shivers when I hear thumps and tings from my glass at 60mph but this glass is really strong and amazing. Much better than OEM IMHO...

My windshield cracked last month and I went through Geico. I have full glass with no deductable and they will not fully pay for an OEM BMW windshield. They referred me to Safelite who deals with Japan made windshields which I didnt want since I own my car and was told its a thinner glass my Safelite. I spoke with a rep from Safelite and they confirmed that Geico will not pay for a BMW OEM winshield b/c they are too expensive but what they did do is call a few bmw dealerships they deal with and was able to get me one and I just had to pay what Geico wouldnt which was $146.00. They came to my office and installed it 3 days later in the parking lot.

Ditto my HUD OEM has an 8" crack in it from a freeway pebble hitting right along the dirver's side edge. Went to my local BMW shop, they quoted me $1700.00 for the new "special:" HUD OEM windshield and said my warranty would be void if I didn't use OEM glass....also said if I later had issues with the rain sensitive wiper system it wouldn't be covered under warrenty...tried the scare tactic and I passed. I'm not insured for windshie;d glass and am not about to pay $1700 to have it replaced!! Have been driving with a cracked windshield ever since...the BMW OEM glass sure seems cheap/brittle...have have scores of pits from just 13K miles in normal freeway driving....looks like I have 100K on the windshield!!
