My Ride: 2006 530xi. Deep green with beige interior. 6 speed manual. Premium package.

This is the day for getting my questions answered.
So I bought a 535xi - CPO - and I kid you not...
I asked the salesman if the hpfp was changed and he said they take care of that prior to making it a CPO. I finished the deal at 6:30 - the salesman and finance guy stayed after the dealer closed at 6:00. As I was driving away the hpfp light went on and I looked in my rearview mirror and the lights were being turned off at the dealer.
No problem. They picked up the car the next day and changed the hpfp.
Now the hpfp warning light comes on if I "floor it" after about 5 seconds and stays on for 30 seconds and then goes out. There is no performance change when the light is on.
Dealer said keep an eye on it for now because the warranty goes for a long time.
Any thoughts?

Have they looked at the fuel injectors? I had the light go off and on when mine were replaced. However, I also had a loss of performance. I don't think your dealer's response is acceptable. The car obviously has a problem. If they cannot analyze it find a different dealer.

There is not a specific HPFP failure light that comes on.
If you get a warning , you get a engine with a 1/2 symbol on it and a notice on the Idrive screen that says some thing to the fact that there is a engine malfunction, and that the engine power is reduced and it is safe to drive at the reduced power to get to a BMW service center...
unless they changed the warning to specifically say HPFP failure in a software upgrade.
On mine when I got warnings , you could some times turn the car off for a period of time and restart it with out a warning or power reduction until you put your foot in to the gas, say maybe half way or a 1/3 of the way. Then you would get the dreaded "Bang" and the warning would come up.
If the car had a malfunctioning HPFP for a while , it is very possible that the engine experienced an extended Lean situation in which the injectors could have been damaged, but most BMW dealers know this by now and when they replace the HPFP and update the software they check the injectors too... if it is out of warranty though the injectors can be very expensive to replace a full set, like in the neighborhood of $3000 so dealers don't like replacing a full set on only replace the ones that are showing lower than spec fuel pressures.

This sounds like bad news. I would look for another 535i if possible. Quite a few of the SoCal members had gotten their 535i's lemoned. If it's a problem now, I don't see how it will be any less of a problem later.

Thanks for all the replies.
I can't go for the lemon law. It is CPO and in Ohio if I remember correctly you only have 1 or 2 years to get a new car.
As far a the warning goes, a warning light comes on (the triangle with the ! inside) on the gauges by the odometer in the middle. Same light as when you forget to fasten your seatbelt. If I get in the idrive fast enough under check messages all it says is "FUEL PUMP!" and nothing else. The light goes out so quickly that by the time I stop the light is off, so when I shut down the car there is no more warning light.

GO to another dealer if they won't service it, or Call BMW NA customer service.
The warranty on the part is 10 yr 120k....it is a very widely known issue, and looks to be continuing on with bmw's decision to use the same part in the N55.
