HPFP 2010 E60

Wife took her 2010 535 (with 7300 miles)in the other day for a seat sensor issue, and when she picked her car back up, low and behold they had also replaced her HPFP, and an ASA Bolt (whatever that is). She/we had experienced no problems with the vehicle, but SA told her it was part of a recall. (it was reflashed last winter as part of this recall, but apparently this is part 2)

Looking at the work order we went from a 1-13-51-7-616-446 to a 1-13-53-7-582-770 (if I am reading this correctly) and a ASA bolt 13509953. Injectors were scanned, none changed. LP sensor tested and not changed.

I was driving her car yesterday, with less than 20 miles on it since getting it back from the dealer yesterday, and it began running rough, and actually died on me at an intersection. Twice. The OBD indicator came on (engine symbol)

Obviously not happy. Plan on going back to dealer Monday, and looking for any guidance on potential issues from your experiences that dealer has overlooked, or any other suggestions.

I know this could be a number of issues, but.....kinda have to look at the latest smoking gun.

Keep in mind my knowledge level of the mechanics of this is pretty low, but am trying to get up to speed. Trying to think of what went wrong.

When the HPFP was replaced, do they have to dissassemble the injectors? When they scan the injectors, do they have to dissassemble them? If the injectors were removed and replaced for either reason, and if they did not put them back in the same order that were in to begin with, do they have to do some type of recalibration? Is there possibly some type of alignment issue on the reassembly?

I am just trying to educate myself a bit, to ask the correct questions in the morning...........

not very familiar with the 535 but it seems like some members in the other forums experienced a similar problem, or at least felt that their car lost its zippiness after brought in for service and the dealer decided to fix the HPFP issue. I'm sure some here will chime in but take a look at other 5 series forums and you'll see that you're not alone there.

I personally had no change in "zippiness" after the hpfp, but this rough running, shutting off, and engine light coming on sounds like something totally different. My guess is that this may be due to the tech not properly re-installing the injectors and/or hpfp. No way to know without taking the car back to them and scanning the codes

You're right Promed...it wasn't because of the HPFP replacement that caused those 535 to lose its "zippiness" if it's actually a word but it was a software update without owner consent when the people brought in to get the HPFP replaced. Just read those threads again.

Not sure why a dealer would need to get owner consent? I thought that making sure the car has the most recent firmware update is the first step in the majority of SIBs related to the electrical/mechanical systems.

My SA informed me that they didnt need my consent to reflash my 5 when they installed the new HPFP. I also did not lose any pep in my step either.

Yet one more reason why I'm not taking my car in unless I am forced to. Not even for the free oil change. My baby is running like a champ....no need to mess with success!

Yeah my car lost its "zippiness" after they did the software update, thats why I got a JB4 and did my own software update.

Once you buy a car then it's yours and ANY work done on the car should have the owners consent no matter how minor whether free or paid services. Some people subscribe to the "if it aint broke, don't fix it" rule as I do.
