Hmmm,
Two interesting dipping mirror observations: small size and convex distortion amplifies closeness to curb. I agree with their being relatively small, and I think that faulted in one of the car mag reviews.

As for the convex distortion, that's very interesting and could be part of my problem. Will need to check that.

I -can- parallel park but rarely do since people in the DC area have no qualms about banging bumpers when they park. I hate the mirror dip, so I don't use it. I don't have AS and I don't have PDC. I have not noticed any real issues parking the car.

I like the auto dip function of the wing mirror and the PDC. Given a choice between parallel and perpendicular, I'd select parallel anytime. I hate it when people park their cars (perpendicular) so near mine that sometimes I find it a tight squeeze just to get back into my car. To top it up, there are idiots who do not spare a thought for your paintwork. They just swing their door open and knock into the car parked next to them.

Heh - yeah, I don't do that either. I'm always hunting for the perfect spot, or parking far away from anyone. Or better yet, I don't drive some places...

1. here in EU we park more parallel.. so for me it is diff.

2. yes it happens, but I am never ashemed to correct it as I drive an e60

3. better to park a feet away than ruin your alloys

true, AS you have to get used to I have some turns in the city where for sure I could not do as easy the turn if I wud not have the AS.

I like my AS one of the best inventions...

PS. I park only from mirrors, you can see the parallel lines or space btw cars and also listen to the PDC which comes on auto if you reverse.

In Essen Show the garage was a multi-level one and once in a turn going one more floor up, I had really max 0.7-1 inch from side of the car in the back so AS rulez... no scratches but ooo that was a hard time!

Whatever you do,how long and how you do it, I can tell you better to be patient than to ruin your 60K+ E60.
