Have anyone experience a howling noise from the steering when turning at slow speeds, for example, turning into a parking lot?

If so, what was the cause?

Checked the steering fluid level? Otherwise, I have no idea and would take it to dealer since it's under warranty.

My 530d se born December 2003 has just started to howl at low speed as you describe.

If you visit the dealer, please post a response as to what the issue was.

Does it sound like wolf howling or what? Do you have active steering option? I have not experienced such on my active steering. In my other cars, a "humming" sound was the joints (ball bearing) going bad. I think the tech. called it a CV joint. Other times, it was low on steear fluid (had a leak).

When and how do you hear the "howling?"

Sorry to appear dim, but I dont think I have active steering.

I would say that it makes the noise when ever you turn, but you tend to hear it more at low speed / revs. Like pulling away at a junction if turning left or right. The noise is low immiting and like some one doing wheel spins in the distance. Not sure I'm atricualting this correctly.

Could it be a slipping belt?

It's sounds like a steering joint issues (front wheel axle assembly). As the car been in an accident? If so, your best beat is to have the people that repaired it look at it again. This is definitely not normal. Again, if it is under warranty, dealership is your cheapest option.

No accidents, it has a clean bill of health from the dealer. I will drop by tomorrow and have them check it over, it's covered by the maintainance and warranty pack.

I guess it all seem's too labour intensive for the ultimate driving machine, first week after delivery, doors were creaking, went back in for seals lubricating, at that time, they noticed the wheel tracking was out and not picked up as part of the 124 point check, therefore another visit and two new run flats fitted (under warranty) and camber adjusted and now this, all in less than 2 months. Hmmmm.

Thanks for the feedback though, much appreciated.

Martin.
