How to replace Steptronic shifter?
My wife was kind enough to get me a new wood (Polplar) shifter for my 545i for Christmas. She was told it's easy to replace, but it came withoutinstructions, nor did I find anything in the DIY section. So...does anybody has any quick suggestions for my on how to remove the old and replace it with the new?
Thanks in advance!

your wife is so sweet
. some leave it at "neutral" and yank it out. some just leave it at "park" and yank it out. just need to give it a good force. no matter what, don't hit your forehead or nose

What you want to do is shift the car into neutral and then pull like hell straight up on your existing shift knob...it'll pop off and then the new one simply pops into place. It's just that easy (this is also detailed in icemans pdf above)
ps-"neutral" is not essential...I've just found that it works better that way because the gear selector is more "centered" and you're less likely to hit the dash with the knob as it comes off
