I doubt it. The usb drive is digital into your head unit and using it's DAC. Should be 2 separate paths but I have read posts of people reporting problems with that connector that caused noise. Maybe giving it a gentle shake will help. I was thinking of trying a usb drive to test if the analog was my problem.

the "noise" or "muffle" is much less noticeable than when i use my AUX port...but you can still faintly hear it....i've gotten used to it but its always nice to have perfection

Also...i'm thinking about getting an MS-8....did it make a huge difference? Currently I have my bass turned all the way down and treble all the way up(so that the stock system is only producing high frequency sounds) with a sub in my trunk and it sounds decent.

Are your highs louder with the MS-8? Are they clearer?

MS8 made a big difference but I have different speakers and amps and no sub in trunk. So yes my highs are much clearer but I never heard the MS8 with the stock system. Be happy to answer any questions but maybe not in this thread. There's a ton of info on the MS8 if you search here and some other sites (e90post is a good one). DIYMA has an MS8 thread that is one of the biggest ever perhaps. And Technics has probably forgotten more than I will ever know.

Reviving an old thread since I'll be doing the same soon and it's not clear how you removed the capacitors, did you remove the board as in your picture? Or did you de-solder the capacitors, thanks.

to answer my own question and for anyone else that may be wondering, the capacitors need to be de-soldered from the PC board. I'ts obvious after you take the AUX plug apart. I went ahead and did it on my X3 which was a lot easier to get into the center console, the tray just pulls straight up. While at it, I tapped into the cigarrette lighter and attached one of these [url="http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Sea-Systems-Charger-Socket/dp/B0082CXEI8"]/url] to the tray and moved the aux port to the inside tray as well. I now have the blackberry bluetooth music gateway inside the console of the x3. My next project is to remove the capacitors from the aux port in the e60 and somehow add another usb power source so I can keep my usb thumb drive and blackberry connected at all times

How'd you get the plug out? That wasn't really clear in the OP.

Sorry I've done it yet, I first did it on the X3 which is a lot easier, I think on the e60 you have loosen up the console and stick your hand behind the usb/aux plug and push it out.

I did it yesterday. If you're careful, you can just pry it out. Don't pry from the top, though, that's the catch for the small compartment latch.
