My Ride: I GOT A 2007 TITANIUM GRAY/AUBURN LEATHER 545I 6SPD MANUAL. COLD WEATHER PACKAE, PREMIUM, PREMIUM SOUND LOGIC 7, SPORT.
Arrow

On the older E39 models it was not a problem. Offcourse the clutch throw was not as long on the E39 and the grabing occured at the bottom.
It is totaly different with an E60. I feel like i am driving an 18 wheeler, and if anyone knows what to do to reduce the clutch throw, please help !!!

Search for threads by Wolverine. He has solved this problem and replaced the CDV.

He has removed the dead area at the end of the clutch throw by glueing wood. Removing your CDV will give you the linear clutch travel and engagement you are looking for. Also search for CDV (Clutch Delay Valve)

I have already removed the CDV Valve, but the travel is now even longer. the clutch certainly feels more agressive and better, but the travel is way to long...

Here's what you do, it's pretty simple. Take a piece of wood, about 1/2 " thick, 1" wide, and 3" long. Use a hot melt glue gun to glue the wood to the carpet below the clutch pedal so it creates a stop. You can use double-stick tape or velcro to check out the best position before you actually glue the wood to the carpet. I've had mine in for 6 months now and it works perfectly.

Replacement of the CDV valve is an absolute must. All it is is a pinhole restrictor in-line with the clutch hydraulic fluid. It causes a delay between the time you move the clutch pedal and the time the clutch activates. I have yet to hear of one person that thinks it is a good idea. Dave Zeckhausen simply bores out the existing CDV and sells them for about $35. I recommend him because the valves are cleaned thoroughly to insure there are no metal particles left that could damage the system. You will notice that your clutch responds immediately to your foot, and it becomes much easier to shift.

wolverine, can you provide pictures of your clutch pedal stop. Very good idea by the way....as long as it's clean.

Thanks!

A) I would not modify the position of clutch travel/position in your car by ways of these mickey mouse stoppers. You are gonna pay for it when you are hit w/ clutch replacement bill of $3500 that BMW NA refuses to pay due to "owner's abuse"

Fix the problem (if there is one) and not jerryrigg a solution.

I disagree that the E39 clutch has a shorter travel than the ones one E60. I have a E39 stick and I did NOT notice any material difference between the travel of the 2 clutch.

C) I can't see how a replacement of a drilled out CDV can cause a longer travel. If you know the process, it is physically impossible. i would check if something else was foul-up during the CDV swapt process.

Good luck fellas,

beewang
