I'm only looking to pay around $12,000 but shops her in TX are asking $30,000 and that's only because they're dealing with a V10 (I'm pretty much paying them to touch a v10.) I wanna do it myself, but I'm not exactly a mechanic.

It looks like he may have an E39 540i with a blown motor from his other posts. Not sure what he wants to put in it though - S85? S63tu?
Are shops quoting $30K including the cost of the motor or just labor. How many shops have quoted the job?
If it were my blown up E39... A GM LS motor would be going in there. That might actually get you down into the dollar range you are prepared to spend.

OP, I would suggest putting a submarine motor in your car. Then I would eat a ham sandwich. Then I would buy a hamster and name it "Mike Hammysink". Save the whales. Call your mother. Belch on me.

he has no idea what he's talking about. I'm pretty sure this is nothing but cleverly disguised spam. His screen name is an acronym for "how much i love your car". He loves your car because he wants you to buy something.

I would suggest a Keith Black hemi and a Lenco 6 speed. Tub the rear wheel housings and use a Dana 60 in back with a 5 link setup with coilovers. I know there has to be a way to code an Edelbrock FI setup to work with Byteflight and CAN so the gauges work and Comfort Access still works as it should. The custom hood to clear the hemi will be awesome to look out over when you drive. NOBODY has a 5 series Pro Stock German 'rod running the streets now. DAMN! This will still be WAY over the $12k budget.
