How much of a downgrade is the non Logic-7 sound system?

ZGerman, you have standard audio. No HiFi no L7, no tweeters, no speakers in the center console. However u will have underwear subs. Its poorest audio one can find in a car. Don't be sad, its easiest one to upgrade. My upgrade path mentioned a few post above will work.
That Motorola stuff is your TCU.

Allow a German dude to help out with what must be just some minor translation (BE>AE) issue: ![Whistling](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/whistling.gif)
"Boot" (BE) = "Trunk" (AE)
"Rear Parcel Shelf" (BE) = "Rear Window Shelf" (AE)

He he...!
It's late in the U.K., and early (afternoon) here in the U.S. now.
That may have contributed to the little misunderstanding...![Smile](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/smile.png)
Getting ready for my first beer! It's Father's Day in the U.S. today, and I'm the happy father to two cats.... so to say [meow!]

[...] Standard audio here in the UK doesn't have amp but HiFi does have and TopHiFi/L7 has different kind of amp which reads its input using MOST interface. these are not interchangeable and upgrade path of all these are different. Living on the other side of continent you are better-off you will get better amps there (Balupunk/Alpine PDX/JL Audio) on much much cheaper price. I imported my PDX-5 from US. Here its all rip-off for the right stuff. Are you sure you have amp in the boot, first make sure you have one and then decide your upgrade path. That 38 pages long thread was on standard setup means with no amp, any other deviation in setup will different instruction.[...]
Found a few L7 Amplifiers, though - but a bit too pricey for my taste... I think (~$800 just for the amp). Was hoping to spend a little less than that..
Oh, well.. I guess I'll try to PM "Technic" to see if he may have any suggestions concerning a "domestic" upgrade path (and less expensive parts than L7 OEM) for me.
Thanks much for all the useful information, AI001 !!

Just checked eBay, but there currently are no "salvaged" E60 L7 tweeters for sale.

Just google'd your "PDX 5"... and found it to be exactly what I was hoping/looking for, AI001:

I found the much better (at least from its specs) but also more pricey PDX-F6 on Alpine's website. That one has a S/N ratio of 94 dBA, and a price tag of $450 (compared to $370).
However, the F6 is stated as "4/3/2 Power Density Digital Amplifier", and not as "4 Channel Power + Mono Power Amplifier"...
What's the difference.. and is that still fine?
Thx,
Armin
