ok folks, i had scoured the internet and found in several places that the e60 takes between 3.5 to 4 gallons of coolant.

i just replaced my radiator and had purchased two gallons of coolant and two gallons of distilled water.

so i drained the radiator and waited until every drop came out. i then installed the new radiator and was preparing to put at least four gallons in, but when i got to two gallons, it was unwilling to take anymore.

later on i drove the car around for miles and miles and it is still filled to the brim with only two gallons.

my questions are 1) does the e60 only hold two gallons? or 2) was there some other place on the engine i was supposed to drain coolant from in addition to the radiator drain plug?

2 gallons doesn't sound near enough. Are you sure the coolant is circulating properly?

beats me. it is a brand new radiator and i don't get a low coolant alert so that leads me to believe all is well (and no leaks). i am still more so thinking not all the coolant drained out of the engine possibly.

Well, that's good. It makes me kind of nervous when you have to rely on warning messages instead of just looking at the temp gauge.
