Don't forget to verify the downward load as well. This also has a specified limit, my e61 is rated for 4400 lbs pulling but the vertical load on the towing hook may not exceed 200lbs. This is model specific, not tow hook specific.

A boat trailer doesn't seem to burden the hook that much in the vertical as long there is no destroyer on it but be sure to check it. Over here you'll get fined when caught and more importantly: insurance companies won't pay when anything goes wrong while towing.

Good luck.

All of the e60 chassis have a 90kg/~200 lbs tongue and 2100 kg/~4600lbs tow limit.

Tow with your BMW? I reserve my Titan for that task! You better be careful launching a boat with a vechicle w/o enough rear end weight. I don't know where you will launch, but I often have to get my rear whells in the water along with the backend of my truck and exaust even being submerged. Also, pulling a comp wakeboard boat out of the water takes some power. Would hate to see a bimmer floater on the lake.

I made a special tow hook on my 04 530i. Is more strong and throw the weight of towing on different parts of chassis than any other hitch, so the chassis don't suffers to much stress.

This is a picture taken on Brazilian mountains, coming back from a 1500 miles trip with my Drag Race Subaru. Subaru and trailer weight near to 3500lb.

Also, the tongue weight is no more than 200lb, sense the Subaru came balance on the trailer, and also the trailer have its own brakes, so the weight is no transfer to the car when it brakes. Also, never exceed a 70mhp speed.

I'm sure the women flock to your car when you have the tow hitch attached, eh?
