I've done 17,000 and have been told I need new rears! Just wondered how many miles you guys have been getting from yours?

Also whats the best wheels out there? I have continentals on at the moment - what do you advise changing to - Pirelli's or Goodyears?

Thanks

Don't you mean tires (tyres)?

I managed to scrape 22,000 miles out of my last set of conti's, however i could have sold them to Lewis Hamilton for his next race , so sub 20k i think is probably the norm with a little spirited driving .

I recon my current set have only got 5 - 10k left on them so any suggestions as to whether another brand offers any benefits???

17000 miles is a good mileage for the type of car you are driving, i would suggest sticking with the contis, but according to my system here in the UK BMW recommends only using Conti and Michelin for your car no mention of Goodyear or Pirelli, (Michelin tyre being a Pillot sport). Michelin tyres are always the best wearing tyre and do tend to last alot longer, but i would still stick with Conti its a good tyre...

Many E60 come brand new fitted with Goodyear NCT5 runflat, mine did. I am in the UK and my car is the M Sport.
My neighbour's E60 also came brand New with the Goodyear NCT 5 as well as my brother's X3.

I have so far done 15K miles on mine. The front still have a lot of meat on them, and the rear have about 3.5mm
left.

Would never change to runflats! Interesting comments - I for some reason thought you'd all say Pirrelli

i think the biggest problem on the powerful diesel engines (combined with the automatic) is the tire wear in the rear, particularly if you stick to the pressure numbers provided by the tire manufacturers, which in my eyes, tends for "overflation" (does this word exist???) and make the wheels wear out more in the middle... regardless of that, the torque of the diesel cars combined with teh automatic increases the wear everytime we get off the traffic light. with my 530d (6spd), the tire wear was far more acceptable than on my 535d with automatic.... looking at the numbers you guys present (20kish miles), somehow proves my point....

Yes but we are talking about 19 inch 172 wheels which do not have runflats, they come with the normal tyres which are alot better than runflats. Yes the M Sport 18inch wheels nearly all leave the factory with Goodyears.

Im real happy with my Michelin PS2's but don't have a lot of miles on them yet. Ride is firm, smooth and quiet.
