How many miles can we expect to get on Brake Pads?

When I picked my car up it had 7,500 miles on the clock and the rear pads indecated 7,000 mles before a change and front brakes 13,000 miles . I have now done 12,500 miles and the rear pads indicate 6,000 miles and Front 12,000 before a change.

Obvoiusly I am a gentle driver and the brake pad wear system must actualy work by measuring the thickness of pad remaining.

What do other drivers find the system report on pad life? (both gentle drivers and heavy brake users)

Its not unheard of to get 100,000 miles out of brakes. Mine are usually need changed at about 30K.

Well we drive alot of miles at highways, specially when the traffic is light, which means high average speeds and not alot of braking... When I drive at night on some long distance driving I can drive 100 kilometers (62 miles) or more, without braking !

We have 74.000 km (46250 miles) on clock, and the service menu says 20.000 km (12500 miles) for the front pads, and 32.000 km (20000 miles) for the rear pads!! And the brake pads have never been changed before!!

Your auto transmission will wear them faster. I got about 45K out of my pads and rotors on my E39 540 6 spd. "Your mileage will vary."

Currently, replacement will be required at 55.000 km for the front pads and 62.000 km for the reat pads.

The funny part is that the estimated kilometers left for the rear pad is increasing.
The estimation has grown from 15.000 km to 20.000 km the last 12.000 km driven.

I am actually replacing mine next week and the car won't have nearly 1000 miles on it. I cannot handle the brake dust so I am having dustless pads installed. It is so worth the $200 not to have to clean my wheels every morning.

I have 6k on the front left and 9k on the rear left with 20k on the car.. I'm not an especially hard ,so this seems about right for my driving style.
