I'm just thinking about the evolution of our beloved E60...first the new 6 cylinder engines, then the new 8 cylinder engine and then the mid-life cycle body refresh (maybe lights, slight styling changes etc.)...how much time do you think there will be between the 550 launch and the "freshening up"??

The reason I ask is I would love a 550 (vs my 545...I mean why not)...but maybe the smart move is to wait a couple years...enjoy what I have (the 30 hp/torque isn't that big of a deal to me...although I would love to have it)....and go for the 550 motor, after the quirks have been worked out, and pick up the revised/updated/freshened (whatever) body along with it.

Seems like a smart move to me. I'd wait as well, only trouble is that two years from now you will of course have the same dilemma and will be worried about whether or not to go for the then current 550 or wait for the rumored and soon to be announced 560Li.....

It's just like buying a computer. Moore's law says that if you wait 18 months, you can get a computer with 200% the processing power, and at half the price.

But, you can't sit around and wait forever.... you have to dive in at some point.

It is a moving target and you need to get the latest software(car) and work with that - I have 1/05 build and missed the brake funstions of 3/05 build. These cars are so robotic that upgrading is a continually and month to month process - as it should be. I love the car for what it is - a technological tour de force, luxury hot rod - yes internet access and MP3 ability would be nice - but we need to leave something to look forward to...

The deals are on now. By the time the 550 hits California showrooms it will be close to the end of October 2005. 545 production will have stopped August 2005. I bet the inventory wll be scarce. Unless ofcourse you are talking about used cars.

Are dealers taking orders for the 550 yet? If not does anyone know when they will? Also what exactly are the changes besides the engine upgrade? Thanks.

No body knows... but i guess the rear light will be changed to LED.

It's funny to see the new 3er goes back to halogen while the e36 coupes got the LED. I guess BMW wanna save that part so that they will have something to change when they do the facelift.

The 750i got a facelift... It's currently 2 years ahead of the 5 in the design, isnt it?

As far as I know the Body changes will be minor (?) but the engine upgrade (to match the new 750 engine) is the major change. I was just wondering what, if any, interior (technology?) improvements were going to be made.

According to this forum, MY2006 will have the upgrades...
