As I am sure most of you know the N52B30 engine in the 06 and 07 530i' have output anywhere from 258hp to 272hp. Here in the US its been the 258 hp and in euro 272hp. Now what does it take to make the engine produce the 272? I have the 258 version and put exhaust and intake on-is it just a matter of software tuning of the engine or are their other actual parts required ? Anyone know what the diff is between the euro and U.S version-other than freer flowing exhaust and intake which are easily done yourself-any other actual part diffs-or is it just tuning the software. and can you get this done?

Unfortunately there no difference in the tune or mechanical setup, its the equation in deriving the HP are different for EURO and USA standards. No joke.

haha no my friend-you can look it up or google it. the engine can put out 190/195/200 kw which is 255/265/272 hp (once you convert Kw (used in euro) to hp-there is no diff-hp is is hp-but anyone ya look it up or google it-It depends on a few things-if anyone wants to check out the N52B30 engine on wikipedia it gives an explanation that I do not really understand about how to vary the hp-I just want to know in laymans terms whether it can be done easily or not. Anyone else

...-there is no diff-hp is is hp-..
Yup HP is HP - BUT PS is PS. And BMW don't make a 272HP engine - they DO make a 272PS engine (200kW).

BMW in EU quote not just kW but PS (Pferd Stark - metric horsepower).

1HP=1.0138697710995586PS, not enough to make the differences you are posting, but a difference, nevertheless.

Thats why a 200kW engine (like my 535d) is actually 272 PS but only 268 HP.

The BMW site lists 200kW as 272HP where it should be 272PS/268HP...

Marketing influencing science...

I think we'd all agree 272HP sounds "better" than 268HP... And after all where does "Horse Power" begin and "Pferd Stark" end?

True, but trade descriptions??? Volkswagen use PS ratings with higher octane petrol and clearly note that HP is lower and reduced performance from lower octane fuels...

so let me get this straight-it is NO the same N52B30 engine and it does NOt even make 272 but instead makes 268? ANd the N52B30 makes 258? but they are 2 seperate engines?

So if that is the case does anyone know then how to suck out more hp out of the N52B30 engine? Maybe in the 270ish range?
