yeah like i said i thought it was far fetched! what i do know though for instant overtaking power when you need it the diesels will have petrol power licked. i am very impressed with how eager this engine feels! I use the BP fuel - feels slightly better but not sure it's worth the extra... Try it and see.

1. How do i tell what softwere does my car have?
2. Are diesel softwere numbers different from gas ones? (v 17, 13, 15,18)
3. From what you know... buying a new model bmw (recent) does it come with a higher softwere from the fabric than an older one (1 year or so older)? I'm asking this because my car (535d) was built last month and it's on it's way here.

The lag is directly related to the size and construction of the turbo. The bigger the turbo the bigger the lag. Thats why a 535d has a small turbo and a big turbo. The small turbo prevents the lag.
I have a remapped 525d that is a perfekt match for a 53Od. It accelearates to 6O miles in between 7 and 7,5 second depending on your skills (manual shift). There is always a lag even with a 53O. ONly the 535 has little lag.
The 525 realy goes to lightspeed in and around 32OO rotation. Its weakens around 44OO rotations. In between those numbers i almost feel i can compete with a ferari
Its fast So if you keep the rotations above 3OOO you realy have a sporty car. Manual is a blessing for that. With auto you just push the gaspedal. With manual you can actualy drive the car at the sporty side

Europe has a lot of traffic. So basicly on a practical level you dont need to be that fast the first distance. The only place you can actualy play a bit is on long road where you can put the gear example from 4 th to 3 th or from 5th to 4th to follow a fast car or make some distance between you and a anoying driver in your tail. WHen doing this that is where the real power of diesels come in. You can actualy feel the frustation of fasters cars barely beeing ablle to follow you when you unleashe the power at that moment.

I raced a friend once for about a mile in my old 528i manual (192bhp). He was in a 525d auto touring (previous model) We set off at the same time and by the time we got to 100mph I just squeezed past him. Not enough reason to justify having a petrol I'd say.
