Does anyone know what the differences are? Its seems that the EU N53B20 is the later verson of the US spec N52B20. Is it just software or are there internal differences between the two engines? The bore and stroke seem similar.
The hp jumps from 255hp to 276hp and same for torque, it jumps from 220lb-ft to 236lb-ft. I would love to find out exactly what was done to achieve this bump.
If its software, is that something available in US or does someone like Dinan have an ECU upgrade to get us this power.
I think this engine is one of those "special" engines with magnesium block that might go down as one of the better BMW engines in history. I can see BMW NA building a "standard" aluminum block for the US for MY08 to save $$ and keep costs down but yet develop the magnesium block engine further to higher performance levels for EU where these cars generally cost much more.
They did something similar with E36 M3's so I can see BMW NA doing this.
TIA.
