How do you work the Auto-dim headlights

My Ride: 2006 530xi. Deep green with beige interior. 6 speed manual. Premium package.
I do what the manual says, put on the low beams in the auto position - check
Make sure my car has the option - check
push the lever forward - check
high beams come on and never go off
What is my problem?

do a search of adaptive headlights - I can post a link becasue I'm an idiot
but it seems in Europe it is a 90 pound option
In the U.S. It comes standrad on the 530's with the xenons
Not sure about the 525's without Xenon
On my window sticker it is listed as standrad feature

No, adaptive headlights is how the lights turn around the corner with you. I don't think BMW have auto-dim options in the e60 (unless I'm mistaken).

Are you talking about the Auto Dipping High Beams? (High beam Assist) If so I dont think US E60s have it.

In the manual on page 94-95 it talks about
1. Adaptive headlights
2.high bean assistant
both have asterisks
The high beam assistant is what I am talking about
My window sticker has
Xenon Headlights - included
Adaptive headlight control - included
Then in another column under standrad features it has:
Xenon Adaptive Headlights with automatic headlight control
So Do we have them in the US?

Automatic Headlights is when you turn the switch to the left "A" and it will turn on and off automaitcally during the night / day.
Adaptive Headlights is the left and right feature...
We dont have High bean Assist here in the US.

At least now I do not feel like an idiot for trying to figure otu how to do it.
BTW - my dad 1979 Lincoln had the auto-dim high beams

Yep, we had an old Caddy growing up that used to do that. It went crazy when you would go around a sharp corner and hit all of the reflective signs!!!
