the question is regarding the cars with a push start button. when i bought my firt e60 i used to start it by pressing and holding the start button, but once i saw my brother starting the car just by pressing and releasing the start button. the car is deisel and manual so the clutch has to pressed while starting it. so anyone knows which one is the correct procedure. thanks for the helpful advice.

My car is gasoline (petrol on your side of the pond!). Auto transmission so foot has to be on the brake, but one quick press of the button starts the car. No need to hold...

Press and release... even my 2005 545 I just turn and release and let the car crank. Oh a 2009 Corolla just twist and release... not need to hold the key in position 3 till it starts either.

Quick tap of the start button is all you need.

Indeed, just a quick press. I also have a diesel and the car itself will decide if he needs the preheat.
I've seen it now already a couple of times that it waits before it cranks.

mine is the key start and i don`t need to hold it in position 3, computer spins the starter 10 times usually fires up by the third crank.
