Default how do you improve the radio frequency?

My BMW has a horrible connection to all the stations in my city. Wondering if something is wrong with the antenna.

has anybody run into this problem and found a remedy for it?

Look up diversity antenna.

Do you also have crappy key fob reception? Both of those are indications for replacement.

This link is for an E46, but the concept is the same on E60, worth a shot before replacing parts.
