after thinking about it again .. i think i saw the message indicator a few times too in my old 530i when i still have the CPT9000 (v60it)

My Ride: E60 545i, 2004. Alpine white, ventilated seats, confort seats, bluetooth, HI-FI Audio, Electrical Rear Blinds, manual Side blinds, Sport Package, Confort Glass,Active steering, Business Navigation
The Icon is a nitification of receiving a new SMS msg. you can read it on the Idrive screen while having a bluetooth connection

If you have Bluetooth (644) in your car you will NOT get the "mail indicator" when you get a SMS... The picture showed is a car with BMW Proffesional Phone... or am I wrong ?

I thouht the SMS message sign was also something to do with what phone you have paired with the system.
I also don't get the sms sign nor do i get the Phone signal strengh sign.
I have Business Nav system with SE T630.
