how to clean throttle body

My Ride: 2005 545iA
Hmm, A little question about 545/550 throttle body, as i understand it only operates when the engine is cold (until 60 degrees c) or its in a limp home mode, otherwise these engines uses the valvetronic? So what effect the cleaning has, when cold, the idle is better? And if its barely used, it wont wear so much...
