Hi, I just got a 2004 E60 525i with 29k miles, not sure if the previous owner did the oil change already.
I want to check if the oil is dirty, but I couldn't find a dip stick to pull like my E46 330ci.

so, is there any way I can take a look of the oil? or maybe it's no way but just wait for the i-drive to tell?

I saw a cap looks like the dip stick for the oil, but I wasn't able to pull it out at all. is it the one?
please give me some advice..

Thanks

You can use the iDrive to check. How accurate I don't know. But go into your service menu, and there should be a "check engine oil" in there somewhere.

I have n 04' 545 on my car the dip is toward the back of the firewall. If what u looking at doesn't have aloop or something to grab that might not b it. It should b clearly mark with an oil symbol on the dip.

If you are not sure if the previous owner had the oil changed......then have it changed.

Besides checking the oil level with the VIN you can ask your "friendly" BMW dealer service adviser to provide maintenance and warranty information on your new acquisition. At the very least there will be a record of work performed by BMW. You should be prepared, the local dealer is not required to provide this information but in my experience some are more willing than others - being a "regular known customer" probably would help.

When the dip stick hasn't been puled out to check the oil for a period of time for some reason or another they are very hard to pull out. Just give it a good tug and it will come out to check the oil. Funny thing if you put it back in and then pull it out right away it comes out easy. Good luck
cheers

that's what I'm thinking about the cap, I did turn it, many and many turns, not able to loose it.
the cap can be turned but not to pull up. (orange color)

btw, I know I should get 7 qts oil ready to do the oil change, but without the dip stick. how could I find out if it's enough.

Thanks

I missed a "," in the sentence ... but if you are really smart you'd know how to check oil with the vin ... vino that is ... drink enough of it and you won't give a s_it about your oil
