Pull the indicator stalk for flashing the light, and push it to stay on

There was another thread about this a few days ago. I think the conclusion was that if you have Bi-Xenons, the second set of lights don't do anything.

If you have the Xenons, they are used as cornering lights. They turn on when you use the turn signal or turn the wheels hard.

Ding, ding, ding!!! We have a winner! On LCI cars they are the cornering lights as ENstig8or explains and the OP has an LCI car. On pre-LCI cars they were the daytime running lights and would flash when the indicator stalk was pulled as Keith described.

I presume they still operate in the normal way in LCI cars with Halogen headlights?

Where are you located?
Since you've mentioned you have 2009 530i ... I assumed it's an LCI but not US Market car if that's the case & you have a Bi-Xenon main beam you may have a non-Adaptive version and the inside is not doing anything only for parking light (Angel Eye) ring.
