ur bet might come true, some research houses have target price on hsbc ~40 and below + its on their sell list.

anyway, I have recorded tvb's smartmoney on the topic of hsbc yestersday. anyone interested to get a copy, pm me, its 4GB in size.

 

if you believe in economic cycle, 10 years might not be a good strategy. take a look at the price of hsbc 10 years ago.

imho, its still a good investment if it can maintain the dividend policy but be prepared to see very volatile prices in the next few weeks.

think of it this way bill. as long as you take advantage of the rights issue appropriately, the average price will be around $49, this probably means you will still get around 5% on dividend payment a year which is a fairly good return in itself + upside potential on stock price.
