Alan, Exercise would help.
I had the same problem with you two years ago, that was the pressure deep inside your heart and brain, even though there are nothing "actually" happened to your life.
I used to wake up at 4am every morning and feel very depress for a period of time, same as you, i felt very depress even there are nothing wrong with your life, and never able to get a "quality" sleep.
I think you need some exercise, not talking about those easy one like golf , you need something that you can get really sweaty like cycling, football, basketball...etc, that will help detoxing your body.
Hope that would like mate, and as other bros said in here, we will be supporting you as possibly we can, you are not alone

Dear Alan,
cheer up!!
make sure you talk to somebody when depressed,
i mean really speak it out to someone
and of course , all bros here are ready to listen
you may try to have some excercise to balance the hormones in your body
that should make you feel better
i know you won't have any mood to do sports when depressed
but trust me, once you get sweated like hell, take a shower, have a good rest
you will feel better
cheer up!!
