When cornering, the inner wheel needs to travel a shorter distance than the outer wheel, so with no differential, the result is the inner wheel spinning and/or the outer wheel dragging, and this results in difficult and unpredictable handling

 

depends but I read some posts for the e9x, some welding work is needed (which I thought it was a v stupid design but then I have seen a few so far in my e90 so wont be surprised if indeed the case).
