my pet e60 just came back from BMW, i thrashed it when it was cold and the sb must have
fried some electronics, it couldn't change up a gear when the needle hit red, there was a volatile idle and it died when you stopped still.
the problem was traced to faulty VANOs sensors, Simpson maybe that is your problem??
oil was black from the K&N (the trade off for the fun) and had that changed as well
the problem is fixed and its perfect again.

My Ride: carbonized MB coupe
i use my car everyday so all that dust and grime came in, in fact they changed the oil without charging me, as they said it was useless to keep it there and get a bigger claim from another warranty claim.
K+N is good,in fact the best there is in the aftermarket, but it has its limitations, lets face it, you get better filtration and protection with the original em, but you get better response with the K+N.

if you planing to keep the car not for long and will trade it in then it dose not matter.
But if you are like me and keep the car for over 5 years then I would change the oil more like the jap cars and if you planning to sell the car your self

for the K&N you need to clean it every 3000km in HK because of the crap on the road and air.
