In both cars the door material right inside the door jam winds up with a hole looking like someone punctured it with a giant flat head screw driver. I'm guessing the E60's have the same issue. Come to think of it I think my wife did the same thing to our E53.

Not 100% sure, but is this the answer to this thread http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BMW-Interior-Seat-Belt-Holder-3-5-7-Series-E46-E60-E39_W0QQitemZ290069640275QQihZ019QQcategoryZ30172QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

OUCH! That is such a bummer I don't even know what to say...

If the belt retractor seems to not be working well, then you might have a warranty claim but I can't say for sure about what a dealer in France can do. In the US, I'm betting BMW would pay for the fix just to keep people happy...

Our MB E-class has a nice feature, when you switch off the ignition it enhances the power to the belt reactor.

Yeah, they do that except that I think it's the other way around -- once you fasten the belt, the retractor tension is reduced so that the belt isn't pulling back as hard while you're wearing it (the pre-tensioners will yank it back on impact) and when you turn the car off, the retractor is returned to "normal" tension which makes it seem like the power is being increased. I'm the type of person who really likes the feeling of a belt on my shoulder -- when I drive an M-B that "relaxes" the belt, I keep finding myself pulling on it and letting it return so I can feel the belt again.

I hate to say it but often times these things are caused by people not returning the belt to normal properly. Often times people will unbuckle the belt and expect the car to take it from there but there are too many factors that can cause the belt to hang up (like a twisted belt, etc.)

I guess the obvious bottom line here is to be careful and make sure the belt is fully retracted...

I am ok that we should be careful but i used AUDI A4, A3 SPORTBACK, and even Peugeot 307cc , never had such a problem with seat belts, it is a 60k car so i think BMW should consider such a problem.

a similar situation happened to me once when i was in a hurry pressed the seat belt jumped out the seat and closed the door fast it got stuck in the same location...now i say thank god it didnt stick out the side and it faced down....

the dealer will probably. say no at first... show the SA what happened and how then ask them to forward the case to BMW, tell them you will even give them the pics you posted so they can send them to BMW... with some luck BMW will do it under warranty.. make sure BMW know that this is your 2nd BMW in 2 years... so they understand they are dealing with a regular customer... hopefully all will be done under warranty.....

LAST NEWS
I went to my BMW dealer today, i explained the problem, they were really understanding and asked me to play the situation again so they could figure out the problem, I got into my car, fasten seat belt, then released belt to go out, belt was stuck again,
good news is that BMW would change the door panel and seat belt for free but i still need confirmation
I will keep you informed

Glad to hear you were able to "duplicate the problem" for them to see. It sounds like you'll be taken care of, as you should be... :thumbups:
