Somewhere I read that you shouldn't hold down the DTC button for more than 10 seconds....So of course I went out and tried it.

I know if you hold it down for 3 seconds, it disables some of the stability control but if you keep holding it down for 10+ seconds all of the warnings go away and the button has no effect until you restart the car.

Seems like I read that this basically disables all of the engine management of DSC and just regulates anti-lock braking.

Does anyone know what this actually does?

I was reminded of this by the hold down the gas pedal for 25-30 second to reset the tranny post which works great.....

The only thing it does if you hold it for 5 secons or more is disable the DSC, which involves both DTC and DSC. If you just tap it once it disables DSC but DTC remains in tact.

Basically if you want not extra "help" from your car-no traction control, no stability intervention etc than hold it for 5 seconds. If you do not want any of the safety but still want traction control keeping wheels from spinning then just hit it once. Holding it for 10 seconds does nothing bad or good atleats in the 07s

I just tried this out on my way to the office this morning and can confirm that it works exactly as sleepyca31 has written here:
- One tap disables DSC but not DTC;
- Hold down for 5 secs, diables both DSC and DTC;
- Hold down more than 6 secs - DSC and DTC disabled, but no other effect.
- One tap after holding the button down for any length of time re-instates DSC and DTC

Keep holding the button down...Eventually (after 10-15 seconds) all of the dsc related warning lights on the dash and/or hud disappear and the dtc button quits working until you restart the car.

This very well might do nothing at all. I don't notice any changes to the handling or performance.

I'm just curious to see if anyone else knows what if anything is happening.

Yes, my car at least used to work this way. I am not sure how it works now after all the software upgrades since I tried the procedure you mention early on--under CIP 19 or so. What software version do you have?

I'll try it on my recent upgrade to 25.01.01. So, you think that holding down until the triangles disappear may leave only ABS functional? That would be a blessing under some conditions that I have experienced in the past.

That's what I remember reading. It would be nice to be able to disable the overly invasive throttle control.....

Out of topic but can somebody please elaborate on this? What is the tranny post? I assume this should be performed when the car's ignition is in the off position.
