Based on what we have all read in the BMW documentation, this shouldn't work - it smacks of snake oil. And after reading this post with all your experiences with it, I figured that there was some sort of mass-hysteria going on here ... soon to be featured on Oprah.

And since we are fortunate enough to have a lot of active and very knowledgeable participants here over the years, there is no way such a neat trick would go undetected. If one of the reputable veterans had announced this ... maybe we would buy it. But not from some young whipper-snapper newbie (who now seems to be banned from the Forum).

But then I tried it (yes, I was sober). Damn if it doesn't work. Color me convinced. I'm a monkey's uncle. This is a horse of a different color. I'm gob-smacked. Whatever ... it works.

Why?
Hilarious..

Silly question, but I tried this just now and I'm not sure I heard anything. Of course you really find out once you drive it, which I have yet to do after doing it, but I heard nothing. Electronics must be on, and no engine. I heard no clicking or anything moving around; just the sound of dripping from under the car. Granted, I don't need to do it since I got the car two weeks ago, but I was a bit easy with it for the first couple of days and maybe that may have influenced the driving style the car "memorized."

i had my tranny reprogrammed on my 04 545 (fixed a sluggish tranny shift that drove me insane). my car is getting pretty rough again, but i'm worried resetting the tranny will reset the programming that bmw did and bring it back to the 04 programing. should i worry about it? i'm not under warranty anymore, so i don't want to pay bmw to reprogram it.

THANKS!

It doesn't actually change the programming, it resets the adaptive mapping that the transmission "learns" as you drive it for some time. In other words, resetting it simply "unlearns" things so that the learning process begins again...

I did a reset at a red light today, while waiting. Guess whose car wouldn't start as the light turned green?

I have no explanation, but it finally started after pushing the stop/start button about 10 times....and I was correctly in neutral each time. It was embarrassing.

They probably thought I stalled the sucker!

And, I have had regular plates since day 1, back in April.
