I did that on my '95 525i with Dinan chip. I don't know what the top speed would have been (I'm pretty sure I was close)...but I just had it to the floor...and the speed was slowly creeping up. I started letting it down once I hit 155...pretty nerve racking really. I haven't REALLY run my '08 535i and probably won't...I guess I've had it about 125 or so. I did take my '97 911 to 170 one time...top speed is suppose to be 171...but as soon as the needle ticked on 170 I started backing down. I won't be doing that again...that experince left me a bit scared...the car was fantastic...but between the possibilities of the cops, some sort of mechanical failure, or whatever...just too much for me.

Along those same lines...the first few times I drove on a track...I had to get used to not looking for cops...it was very weird. I guess it comes from so many years of drving on highways and such and watching for cops.

track driving is FAB and possibly a contributory reason why I feel "used" to the speed and not worried about hitting the top end at all. that said, it's been a few years since I last drove on track, in a formula renault 2000, and this thread has inspired me to get back on track - in my daily driver - and where else than the nurnburgring. so I'll be making inquiries now and setting something up soon, that will no doubt be FAB!

my adrenaline is pumping just reading about going 140+ - have yet to do this but 110 is safe/fun enough for me at this point.... even if its only for a few seconds.
