Question

I don?t usually drive fast on our highways, and when I say fast I mean in speeds excess of 150 Kph. Anyway, the other day I was going to a near by city and the highway was empty, so I thought why not hit 200 kph today since there is no one. I did, and once I exceeded 185 the highway had a slight right hand curve. Right at that moment I heard a sound, it was like metal squeaking to me. Once the road became straight it went away.
I did further testing and heard the sound almost every time I hit 200 with a slight turn, I also heard it in speeds of 210 going straight. Couldn?t tell where it was coming from.

Bottom of the line is, I took it to the dealership. And after taking it for a ride it turned out that the wind shield had a small air leak in it which acted as a whistle that only made a sound at very high speeds.
They fixed it an it is all good now, I just thought I should share this with forum members. Someone might have the same problem.

Why would you wish for a problem?

What's wrong with yours?

I have a similar problem at much lower speed, say 100kmph. It sort of comes from beneath the dash just behind the speedometer. One thing is certain though, it sounded like wind leaking in or whistling in.

Anyway, my ride will be in the dealers' tomorrow with quite a few things for them to work on.

I wish I could drive 200 kph long enough to notice a squeak or two. Speed limits here in the US.

wolverine: I went to school in the US, and in some cases (i should say rare). I did drive at such speeds but I knew the highway and it was a long straight section where cops can't hid to detect you. Only on such sections I drove at such speeds.
You should try it sometime.

Olivin530i: I think you have the same problem as me, when I took the car to the dealership I reported a sound coming from under the dashboard, I suspected the base of the steering wheel was squeaking. I hope they fix it for you.

Desert530,

I have the same problem with my 530d. Sometimes when reaching near 200 Km/h or more i will ear that horrible sound coming from the dashboard.

What was the problem with yours? I'am making a list of small things i want to be seen in the next visit to the dealer, and this is one of the questions i want to solve.

Like I said, they told me I had an air leak in the wind shield which was causing that sound. I hit 210 last week and it was all good no sound nothing.

I had the same at speeds above 215Km/h.
Dealer took the windshield out and replaced the glue, no problems anymore...
