Is anyone having any issues with handling at speeds starting about 80 mph and up?
My car was a early 2007 530i Sport (ARS, no active steering) produced in early April.
My traveling companion and I both noticed it during European Delivery, but really chalked it up to new tires and high psi in them.
For the most part the car will track straight, but even with tires adjusted to the lowest (light load, under 100 mph) setting, it seems to hunt ever so slightly left to right. Like you are driving into a crosswind. I have tried the low and high psi settings in the manual to no effect.
I can duplicate it every time on a straight road on which you can safely go 80+ (mph)
It is more pronounced the faster you go, very evident 110-125 mph.
Ever so slightly saw the wheel back and forth and ARS will cause the ass to wiggle like there is a strong crosswind. It is not firm planted at all. Around town, speeds up to 80 all is perfect, no error messages.
It is very unsettling.
Otherwise the car is PERFECT.
EDIT: I just talked to my best friend who used to work at the local dealer.
He was getting an oil change there yesterday and making small talk with a tech he is friends with.
The conversation turned to business and the tech commented that there have been a rash of E60 complaints regarding my exact problem - more when I know more...

AH HA! good good good to hear that this poor wandering around the road in high speed on E60s is not due to the Active Steering... since you dont have it.
Ya many people experience what youre talking about and some have argued that its cuz of active steering... but you're reporting the same thing and you dont have AS!
I think its the poor tires... tramiling (sp) all over the place following the grooves on the road.

It's not tramlining. Tramlining will occur at any speed due to the grooves on the road. You're implying tramlining only happens at high speeds.
What I am experiencing is completely different...
It is steering or rear suspension without a doubt.
My last BMW was a 540 six speed sport with 18" rims.
The ball and joint (as opposed to rack and pinion) caused some hunt on the highway, but nothing like this nervousness...
This feels like the ARS dancing about in the rear at high speed like the tail on a fish.

Just to let you know that response was a tongue-in-cheek remark towards EBMCS03.
And, I'm sorry to hear that you and a lot of others are having this problem. What did BMW do that made this problem arise?

Something with the rear end wanting to dance around to very miniscule steering inputs at 80+ mph speeds.
I hit 110 this afternoon coming home on a wide open road and it was white knuckle driving...
Very un-BMW like compared to my old ones...

It is def NOT the RFTs or pressure - confident in that.

Glad to see that you started a thread on this in this forum. Thanks for the link. I don't have RFT's, nor active steering. Base Model 530i. Maybe drivers in the states don't notice it. They may be more worried about the law. I have been over in Germany for 2 years this time, and I am used to driving at high speeds. I am having problems between 115 -125mph like you describe, but it seems to get better at 130mph. I experience it mostly when pasing other vehicles. I catch a draft from a compact, and it feels like I am passing a Semi in a Blizzard. Some strectches of the autobahn are rough, but one that I freqeuntly travel on is a new stretch. My other vehicle handles fine on it up to it's limit of 150mph. The recovery time seems a little better with the DSC off, but not the handling one would expect from a car in this class. Handles great under 100mph. Takes turns well for it's size. It doesn't handle as well as my 2500lb ITR, but it does good for it's size in the twisties. Also with the Bimmer I don't feel every defect in the road.

Hmm I actualy got it up to 145 mph once and didnt realy feel anything like it. I'd say that its suspension is still kinda soft compare to a sports car so I dont expect a lot from it. In any case this doesnt sound good and should be fixed if its true.

My Ride: On Order as of May 6- 2007 530i Titanium Grey and Grey Leather, with Sport Package, Premium Pkg, Cold Pkg.
2006 Porsche Boxster
I wrote about this not too long ago. I felt as though my car was drifting in the lane. I dont have active steering . It seems to have been better with less pressure in the tires. I have 30 PSI front and 36 rear.
