The e60 is not quite as nimble as my e46 M3 was, but it is a great handling car that rides smooth as silk. The fastest I have gone is 120 mph, but this was on a fairly steep incline on I5 on the border of Oregon and California. What amazed me was how fast I was accelerating on this incline with 2 passengers in the car. I could have been at 150 in no time. Amazing! This car has way more oomph from 80-120mph than the M3 did. And you gotta love the low end torque!

Let me add to the story:

I dont think it is only the E60. On a father day, few years ago, I was driving my 2002 E39. I felt slept while driving. When I woke up, I was on the grass side of the highway. I did felt a HUGE "GRRRR" while the car went up the grass.

My car did not have a scratch but my wheels did not appreciate my sleeping habit. There was a bush of grass built in them.

I recently took mine up to 125 mph on a stretch of road from the Space Coast to Orlando. True ecstasy! I'm known as the fastest driver in town but this was sheer joy. I was amazed at how stable the car felt and I knew that I could have gone even faster...(just didn't want a ticket). The only scarry part for me was what if some bonehead pulled abruptly into my lane. The more I thought of that possibility made me slow down to around 85 mph.

I know exactly what you mean, Merv.
I have a game I play now in my E60: when I drive through a curve with a slower posted speed - I try and double it.

I play that same game all the time!!

Try coming across Kansas at sunrise! 132 mph through bends and turns with no traffic. It feels great! And I don't even have a sports suspension!

What are you guys talking about? I can do it in my Camry!! The catch is in Texas (most cities), you can double the posted speed and not spin out or lose control on a good dry day. For example, if a curve is posted at 45 mph, you can hit at 90 mph (be careful in a regular car, though). Likewise, if the freeway is posted at 60 mph, you can do 120 mph on a clear day without traffic. The only danger is some possibly hillbillies (old time country people) pulling into your lane.

I've gone as fast as 135 mph, but my bimmer as a built-in alarm that "whistles" at about 120 mph. I have a defective winshield seal job that no dealer is willing to fix as warranty because they cannot duplicate the problem (They can't drive over the speed limit during testing). I found one dealer, but they don't have loaner cars if I didn't buy the car from them.

BYI, west Texas finally has a 210 miles stretch of highway that you can drive at 80 mph. That means hit it at a maximum of 160 mph.

Hey, I get on the BEELINE (Beachline for tourists) as well. Really nice when going at 4 am to Airport and there is no fog or smoke. Can crank it up a little.

I drove from Palm Beach to Winter Park doing about 120 mph the whole way on the Turnpike. Easiest road to speed on and get away with it. Nothing for miles.
