My question is this: Is the high pressure pump failure issue affecting only the inline-6 engines or could it affect the 550's V-8?

Thanks for whoever has the answer!

Thanks all! I am in London England on business and my dealer called to say theyt changed the computer and received a new fuel pump (5+ hours to change). Tested last night and again today - no faults and I willpick up tomorrow when I return to Canada. It's been quite the ride - but I do feel well looked after by BMW and grateful for all your feedback too. Thanks I will let you know how it goes from her on.

PS: My co-worker here in London drives a 2007 335d (or was it a 350d .. must be tired) and his 2nd oil change cost almost 500 pounds ... that is $1200 CAD dollars ... no free service here!

I have just got this letter from BMW and have confirmed the parts are now showing on the BMW part system

Further to the letters and e mails sent by yourself, us and BMW ******* I spoke to ******** of BMW ****** who gave me the following information regarding your vehicle:

BMW Munich received stock of the fuel pumps that malfunctioned in your vehicle on the weekend of 21st/22nd July 2007, these pumps are being shipped to England and BMW ******** has been reliably informed they should reach ******* BMW on 01/08/07. The

fitting of the fuel pump is a 3 hour job so should be done by the next day. The delay has been caused by the factory who manufacturers the pumps.

A factory order vehicle is showing up on the system as late September / early October. BMW UK will not authorise BMW ******* to supply a new vehicle as the pumps are on their way to England on a ship as we speak.

However, BMW UK have agreed to pay a goodwill gesture to your company for the lease of the vehicle.

Should you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact me.

I posted about how I've been getting check engine lights and engine malfuntion warnings.... I wonder if I could be having issues with the high pressure fuel pump as well. The dealer told me not to let the gas level get to low which I thought was total BS.

Letting it get low is OK. Well, it won't hurt anything, anyway. To reduce moisture and those highly flammable fumes, it's better to have the tank at least half full, but letting it get to the point where the low fuel light comes on won't hurt the engine.

Letting it run out completely? Well... try to avoid that.
