Hey!!
Can anyone help here? I'm looking at a high mileage e60 and need advice! Its a 2005 525d m sport, 147,000 miles, full BMW service history and one owner from new. Does this sound like a good buy? Its about half the price of what an average miles one would be. Are there any issues i should be looking at? I realise these engines should go on forever but do they? I was also thinking about remapping but hear it shortens the engine life?? Help help help!!
Cheers!!
Mike.

It would pretty much depend on:
1) the price
2) your ability to do maintenance yourself
3) a need to keep at least $2-3k US in your account to handle repairs that would have to go to a dealer or certified mechanic
If the e60 didn't have all the electronics, I'd go for it. But given the propensity for electronics to go bad after a lot of usage, It would need to be a 'steal' for me to want to buy it.

I have an 04 E60 with Sport Pkg. It has 137k on it now. I'm the original owner. The car blows my mind to drive it, I swear it's only gotten better. I intend to drive it til it drops. I don't care about the depreciating values after holding on to them as they approach the end of the warranty. The car has long been paid for and I love this machine. I've now modded it like I want it; about 90% there. I drive an Expedition for work and travel and I long to be in my cockpit when I get home! Thanks BMW for a fine ride!
If it looks good, is problem free, and it's the right price then go with it. I'm still loving mine and can't wait to take it past 200K.
Good Luck!

look under the oil cap, check for sludge buildup. This is usually a good way to find out how the previous owners have taken care of there vehicles. Any good mechanic would tell you the same. Yes they will run forever as long as they have been serviced on time/properly, and have had no overheat issues.

Mike,
I have a E39 530d that has done over 200k miles. It has had a few big bills along the way, but still drives better than most ordinary cars with a third of the miles. So well in fact, I can't part with it even though I have an E60 too.
Don't be afraid of big miles. Well looked after BMWs can take them in their stride. Just change your engine breather to protect the turbo.

My Ride: 2006 525XI, Jet black on Dakota beige. Premium and winter packages. I consider myself a purist and intend to keep my car absolutely stock and shiny.
2008 328I Convertible, Sapphire black on beige interior. Premium package, NAV, iPod adapter.
Retired: 2002 325I, Titanium silver on black leather. Premium package. Absolutely stock and proud of it.
Take it to a good independent BMW for a total check and then make your decision. G/L
