Thumbs down

got a high battery drain message for three days when i started the car in the morning or after a long period of being parked.
Took it to sterling bmw this morning and they just called me back saying they are going to change the alternator and keep it overnight
to monitor the car.

I have seen this error come up on this forum before but never seen the alternator replacement as the fix, can someone chime in on this.

If you don't drive these cars relatively frequently they'll wear down the battery due to the constant battery use required to operate the computers and electical equipment during the "sleeping" mode. I just bought a trickle charger for our cars to be safe ............... even parking them for 5 or 6 days can result in a "slow" start ..................it's the price of technology I guess. Good luck

I had the same issue, but I drive my car daily. Brought my car into the dealer, they kept it for 3 days. They recharged the battery a couple of times, because it died on them as well. All components were tested and came back with no faults. The fix was updating the my CIP to the latest version. Ever since then, the issue appeared one more time, but has been ok.

I am going to by a trickle charger myself, just in case.

Westcoast- where did you purchase your trickle charger? Was it from the dealership?

Just got a call from my SA, she said it was a control module that was draining the battery. They've changed it and are re-progamming tha car right now, Will let you guys know which control module it was when i get the car back (she dint know which one it was).
Had my mp3 playback turned on about 3 weeks back, don't know if that had something to do with it.

So this sits in the car and feeds the battery juice whenever the car is asleep or is it always running irrespective of if the car is asleep or not?
And how difficult is it to install ? i might just get it just in case, sounds like a good thing to have although i would never have gotten to know about the faulty control module

ok just got a call from the SA, they finished re-programming and now it is complaining that they replace two more control units.
They are emailing BMW NA because they have no clue why it is asking them to replace the control units.
She does not know which control units they are because she has not gotten my paperwork back.
