Hi troops.
Been getting the dreaded HIGH BATTERY DISCHARGE warning on my 56 plate 520d M Sport. Usual symptoms, time date clock etc all re-setting. Have had the battery and alternator checked and both appear to be OK. Am loathe to put the car into my local dealer, as Arnold Shark has recently bought it over and I refuse to line the crooks pockets.
Was just wondering, if anyone else on here has at any time, unplugged their IBS lead on the battery?
I have and it seems to have "cured" the issue. Any ideas suggestions or warnings against, would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Al

IBS failures aren't unusual but I don't know the ramifications of disconnecting it because it provides information about charging / discharge rate so your battery is charged according to its condition and age. That said, when I replaced my battery. I also replaced the IBS at the same time. They tested the battery 2-3 times over the course of the day and it wasn't until they tested it the 3rd time that it showed a fault. Guess something internally finally showed up. The IBS was (only) about $100 add'l - the whole deal cost me about $400 (diagnostic and install time+ battery+ IBS+ registration) I have a GREAT BMW dealer that isn't a "stealer" -- really too bad that you don't have one of the same.

BTW, I'm told by a knowledgeable BMW SA there is no specific "test" to determine if an IBS is faulty. Anyone out there have information to the contrary?
