Thumbs up

Do any of you know if the engine temperature taken from the #7 menu option in the hidden OBD menu is the coolant temp or the oil temp.
Also I am curious as to where the temp sensor is located.

(I have the idea it is an oil temp senor in the engine housing that also is used to calculate the oil quantity)

I don't remember the numbers, but I have two number in the menu: one is about 100-102? when warm (and I think is the oil temp, because the M5 cluster shows about the same), the other one is very strange, because it increases very slowly 7?C, 7.5, 8, 8.5 etc..

There is athread over BMWland and they seem to think opption 7 is the coolant temp. Looking at the speed at which it gains temp my thinking is that its coolant temp as oil takes longer to warm up.

The 2nd one would be the outside temp..

Judging by the speed of the temp change the coolant would be possible. However, I seem to recall these engines have a heat exchanger that warms up the oil with the coolant.

According to this http://www.kolumbus.fi/jkorkala/bmwdebug.html option 7 (KTMP-MOM) is coolant temp.

K?hlmitteltemperatur=coolant temperature.
