I have this problem, I have been chasing for days. Thought it was my transmission till this morning when I realized it does it in park just stepping on the gas. When I step on the gas very lightly there is a hesitation right off idle and when you are driving normal and stopped at a light then go to excelerate it feels like the transmission is skipping. Any help is appreciated it's driving me nuts.

Thanks.

I am experiencing a similar problem but suspect an engine missing aas the likely cause (I have a 6sp manual). changed the plugs last week with no improvement so I'm researching a link to replacing the crank case recirculation valves. I remember a DIY thread here for that some time ago.

This is definitely not a misfire I would describe it more as a flat spot.

Fryeje, I have the same problem I'm chasing. When the temperature outside is below 50 my 545i(6 spd)hesitates when cold and driving at steady rpm. Once it's up to operating temperature everything works fine. I changed air filter, spark plugs, cleaned MAF and both the CCV's. Still the same thing. I'm assuming it has to do with an temperature sensor of some kind, does anyone have any other thoughts?

Thanks for the message. My problem is worst case as the car starts to warm up. Full cold, I don't notice it as much. As the car starts to warm (RPM Warning indicator starts to move) it is bad, then as car becomes completely warm it goes away or is much less noticable. Haven't checked for codes yet but don't expect any. I had a similar problem on my motorcycle that was the cylinder head temp sensor so I'll look there next but my first thought was an injector or coil since I changed the plugs. I had two plugs that were slightly darker than others but not enough to give me any concern when I changed them. I'll keep the thread going as I find out anything more.

I have a 2005 545i 6spd and I have also noticed that when the temp outside is below 50f and the car has sat overnight, cold start, it stutters. If you look at the RPM gauge it confirms that the engine stutters. It fluctuates about 200rpm until the engine is up to operating temp. Would love for someone to let me know what needs to be done to fix the problem. I have 75k on the odometer and no warning lights or codes being thrown.

Fuel filter? A code won't appear if it's the filter.

I noticed a similar problem as well over the past few weeks in my 08 535. I don't really feel it as some are describing, but can hear it. In the mornings and sometimes after the car has been sitting I'm getting the stumbling feel and sound. At this point it seems minor, but noticeable. Hopefully, it not getting any worse! Anyone finding the cause please post.

I was able to capture a code - P0128 - Coolant temp below thermistat regulating temp. Likeely cause the coolant temp sensor. I'm going to change it out and see if problem goes away.
