I believe this has been discussed before, but you know, if it's not affecting you at the time.....Anyway, when accelerating briskly from stop, there is a slight hanging up or hesitation before power is fully delivered. Is this a software issue or some other problem? '05 530i, STEP., build date 12/07/04. Thanks!

I know it both a software issue and a sensor issue. The recent update to 15 (from 14 for me) fixed the problem for a while until a sensor in the oil pan started to give some false data. Once again causing the hesitation on start up. Mine has started it again just tonight after backing out of my garage and turning a hard right the RPM started to surge and then drop rythmically. I watched it on the tach go from 1500 do to 800 and back up again. Strange stuff going on in there!!

My Jan 04 build 545 had a pretty dramatic delay when accelerating from a stop, like you describe. As part of the DME Emissions recall I had all my software updated a couple of weeks ago and now find the delay to be nearly gone. There is still, on occassion a very small but noticable delay, but it is vastly improved with the new software, at least for me. I was updated from ver.11.x that came with the car to ver 15.0.

I initially wrote that I thought this went away with V15 but now I don't think that anymore. It seems to be there still and I have noticed it both in D and DS. Not always but sometimes.
I still think it feels like the transmission is downshifting but nobody has agreed with me on that. My theory is that if you drive moderately (as you normally would in the winter), the transmission learns to start from second gear - then when you decide to punch it suddenly, it needs to downshift. If you drive agressively, it learns to start from first so you don't get the lag. Just a theory.
