My 520d Manual has done 3500 miles and has just been to the dealer for the '1600/2000 RPM hesitation' problem, however, they did not touch the car saying that it had no fault codes - so no problem!
I showed them info on the EGR update which has been discussed in various threads - their response was that as the car is an 07/06 model, the software was probably up to date and the next version is not due until Nov/Dec.
Not satisfied with the response, I took the Engineer for a test drive to show him - and all was perfect - how frustrating!!
During the frustrating test, talking with the engineer, it seems that the dealer is reluctant to update the car without authorisation from BMW headquarters (CUPE or something) as the update job time (8-9 hours) cannot be recovered by the dealer!
So there we have it.
BTW - the problem came back soon after I drove the car home having given it some stick! - so it seems that the problem is either affected by heat, or a change in the rolling adaptive parameters stored in the DME.
Oh - one more thing, I have already run the car for 2 tanks of BP Ultimate - no difference at all - st ill hesitates & getting 37MPG.

Same issue on my 06 520d.
Had the injection reprogrammed after 2000 miles; Problem is now back at 8000 miles... I just took my car back to the delaer this morning (paint work + "hesitation" problem); hope they can get this right....
Will keep you posted !!!
By the way, could anyone of you give the reference of the EGR update service bulletin if they have it ? Just so that I can show it to my delaer !!!

I have a slight hesitation just between 4,000-4,500rpm on my 530i (M54 engine). Anyone experience this?
Have read somewhere that it could be the DSC, traction control kicking in but its been happening on dry surfaces where its not been slippery.

Mine 520d was doing average 37mpg before the EGR update, now whatever I do it wont go below 41mpg. Did a long run (300 mile round trip) and it averaged nearly 50mpg and I wasn't hanging around. Which dealer do you use? Go back and insist they do the mod, my car was only in for a few hours so don't believe it's a full software update. I will call my dealer tomorrow and try and find out more. BTW I only use BP Ultimate.
The Dealer in question is is Specialist Cars in Stevenage - my vehicle is leased - which may explain their reluctance!
I feel a battle brewing!

Just back from the dealer, the hesitation on my 520d is a known fault, a new software uograde is due out in the new year. My dealer has booked me in. I hope this works.

Well, I've just been towed to the garage with a suspected blown turbo. Perhaps the hesitation I experienced was the beginning of a failure ? Mentioned my creaking steering again as well, as the lubrication they applied hasn't worked.

That's good news - which dealer do you use? Was there any mention of a technical bulletin?? - just that I'm looking for levers!
The dealer was Stratstone in Derby 01332 369511. No mention of a technical bulletin but they knew all about the problem. I hope this helps
