What exactly was the issue? Let's hear this quote too.

Heard of old E39 cluster issue (pixels) Never seen this. Looks like a software glitch. If it comes down to your pocket. Drain all power and try again....or just take a small star or hex key that fits in the screw and take out and disconnect your cluster and reconnect. I bet the problem would disappear. You have to understand BMW does not repair parts if they don't know the issue. They will first complain SW update....on your pocket and then if doesn't work they replace....also on your pocket.

Ah, looking at the pic it may not be the problem I initially imagined in PM.

It's still a possibility, but it looks more like another type of defect to me.

Maybe we can take a look at it once I get back in a few days.

That would be great Simon, thanks. In the meantime I am going to try (as suggested) to disconnect the battery this weekend and see if a reset helps things at all. I am not optimistic since, normally, when electronics go bad they stay bad.

looks like my old e39, and my old e36, does BMW ever learn with these designs? I mean nothing lasts forever, but when every car has the same issues...c'mon....

Looks like you need an 08 550i John.

GL with the problem.
