Been a good day today.

Gonna start from the beginning.

Dealer wanted me to pick my new car up yesterday, but I couldn't make it so arranged for pickup this morning. It was his day off, but he came in anyway. First glimpse of my car and by god its a beauty. Had a quick look inside and out and then inside to finish off the paperwork. Had a set-to with the finance person over gap insurance, "you cant beat our ?299 for 3 years" they said. "Yes I can" said I. "No you cant" said they. "Yes I can" I said, unfolding a quote from hitachi capital. Dont think they were too impressed with that.

Anyhow, payment made, off outside. Now, this is my first BMW, [My cars have been..Ford Escort, Rover 418SLDT, Ford Mondeo LX, Mazda 626 and latterly a Nissan Primera T-Spec (fully loaded with all the toys as standard)] and so the little things had the Wow factor. Like you can press a key ont he fob and not only does the boot unlock, it opens fully. Wow.

Saw the engine - "where do I put the water?" is the limit of my car technical knowledge, so that didnt take long.

Then we sat inside. I went for the comfort seats and boy are they comfortable. My first impression was one of being overwhelmed with the array of buttons and gadgets that I had ordered. Im glad there is a bank holiday weekend coming up so I can fully familiarise my self with it. Once he explained the basic, I was like "ok, get out so I can drive this thing". Just a small detour with the dealer to the nearest petrol station as he had promised me a full tank but tried to get away with less than half.

That done, short 5 mile drive home, I was very tempted to just get onto the M6 and go, anywhere, just go, but I had work to do so will save that for the weekend.

Taken some pictures, not great ones as our drive is a bit cramped with cars as my old one is not going until Friday, but here you go...

I have to say that this was the first time I had actually seen the anthracite bamboo and I think it looks fantastic. Though the dust and fingerprints are driving me nuts already

I also went for the option 2HH wheels (the cheapest upgrade) but different from standard..

I ordered option 6FL and most of you have seen the pictures of where its located. I was happy that its not located near the rear vents, but you can tell the location was designed for right handed people who drive left handed cars. It was a total pain to use my left hand to plug a cable or memory stick in, and using my right was useless as it blocked the view. Typing this, I guess I should have just got out and sat in the passenger side and did it that way - but I didnt think of that at the time. Instead, I found a spare USB extender and now this little problem wont bother me again.

I tried plugging my Ipod, using the standard USB cable that comes with the Ipod. and it started playing straight away, however my screen looked like this..

Anyone seen that before - Music plays fine, and you can scroll thru the list and select any track and it plays - you just have no idea what that track will be.

Using a USB Stick works like a charm though.

So, its now done 7 miles and I'm waiting for the M6 to quieten down before taking it out. I'm annoyed with the Sun at the moment, as I wont be able to check out my Xenons, Adaptive lights and High Beam Assist.

Congrats! Looks Great. Like the rims and the bamboo. Is the Ipod the correct generation that is supported? Maybe that could be the issue...

Thanks.

Ipod is the 60Gb Ipod Video, which is about a year old, so it should be ok. It may well be I need the "special" cable, but I would like to hear from anyone else who has tried this with the standard cable.

I had the same problem with a standard USB cable and an iPod. When using a standard USB cable the iDrive software is scanning all the songs on the iPod for there MP3 tags. When you wait long enough you will see that the list of artists, albums and songs will complete.
If you use the special (option) iPOD cable, the iDrive software uses the database on the iPOD to create these lists. This is done within seconds.
I didn't have to pay anything for this special iPOD cable (belgium) , but I' ve read on this 'great' forum that in the UK they ask ?40 for it optional cable.... this is a lot of money ... but I still think it is worth the price.

How long did you have to wait. I guess im being impatient, but I had left in plugged in for a good 5 minutes - though I do have some 40Gb of music to catalogue, guess I need to wait for a longish journey.
