I have searched the forum and can not find a similar issue with the gearbox gear selector assembly. I have an 07 530I with an automatic steptronic transmission and have recently been having problems with my steptronic gear selector. At first My car would not engage into sports mode and the DS indicator lights on the dash and shifter cover would also not come on when shifter was in the DS/M position. Now when the gear selector lever is in the drive position the car goes into Either M or "DS". when the shifter is in the M/DS position car goes into drive.I have indicated below a breakdown of whats happening in an easier to follow format!

WHEN GEAR SELECTOR IS IN ---------- TRANSMISSION IS IN

drive----------DS/M1-5

DS/M--------drive

pushed upor down for M mode------- car stays in DRIVE

Park/Neutral/Reverse----------No problem here each works fine

when I wiggle the selector around between the Drive DS and M positions I seem to be able to switch between DS and M mode. If the transmission is in M1(gear selector in Drive) I have to move lever over to left position and push up or down (normally manual mode but car now indicates its in drive)then back over to Drive and the car will have up/downshifted as directed.

Is the steptronic switch serviceable?

 

I would PM member schulrog for assistance. He made retrofit kits which included wiring harnesses to swap out the shift knob with one from other models.
