Hi

I know this MAF Sensor cleaning / Unplugging has been done to death all over the forums, but I cant find anything specifically for the e60 2 litre diesel. I need to remove and clean the MAF to eliminate it as a cause of my rough idle /bumpy ride problems before I send the car to a garage.

I've tried following guides but none of them are for my 2 litre 4 cylinder engine, so, does anyone have a guide? Any pics even to confirm the location of the MAF sensor?

Thanks in advance

follow the path of air duct [to the engine]... typically MAF is located right after the air filter.

Looking at the diagram I would say yes to 3 and maybe to 10 - I've not worked on the 2.0D.

Ok, going to attempt this today. I'll take pics and hopefully be able to share my own "How to" guide.

OK, I couldn't get the sensor out but I did unplug it to see if any difference, no luck. It's actually worse now on starting , although better when actually driving.

I noticed that with the sensor connected, when I rev at idle the engine will shake at 1000 rpm then 2000rpm on the way up, then shake worse at 1000 rpm on the way down.

With the sensor disconnected, the shake is minimal on the way up at 1000 rpm, not there at all at 2000 rpm, and less again at 1000 rpm on the way down.

Has anyone any ideas? I think I'm going to have to leave it to the garage, not going to be a cheap fix by the look of things.
