hey guys
about to close a deal on a 545i november 04 build date. been sitting at the dealers for the last 6 weeks or so. has nav,auto, prem sound, sports,sat, cold weather.
can get a newer 545i from another dealer for same money, but grey instead of black interior (slight preference for black) built in jan 05.
does it matter? dealer told me that the latest software would be in my nov 04 car and that they would give me the printout to prove this.
supposed to close this deal tomorrow, so please chime in boys. i can provide vin number if you need it

I don't think the software would make a difference, even if it were newer. From what I've seen on this board, the software updates lately have not been adding much. The important software updates were for 2004 models, not the 2005.

Besides.... software can be updated, seat color cannot.

 

I don't think there's any difference so you should get the color you want all things being equal. I have an 11/04 build that I bought on 3/16/05 and was able to negotiate a decent price because it had been on the lot a few weeks.

 

i guess my concern was not about the software but any other 'bugs' in the car - engine, run flat issues ( i know the nov 04 car has dunlops), etc.

 

Does the 04 have Bluetooth? If so, then there is probably no difference between the 2. It is my understanding that the true 5-series upgrades did not begin until week 9 of Production anyway.

 

Yes a november 04 build is the same as one that was built in January 05. no change... Same car. I have a Nov 04 build and I have Bluetooth. no problems. go with the color of you choice...

 

What about a JULY/2004 one? Does it has bluetooth? Also i saw a post talking about a V16.2 software update which will enable the MP3 function of the car. is that true?

 

July 2004 build will be capatable to have the Blue Tooth software upgrade. I also have a July 2004 build.

The tech notes are cars built after March (I believe) can have the s/w upgrade for bluetooth. Unfortunately, I had to pay for the s/w upgrade for this. The dealer piggy backed it with the ECM recall upgrade in the fall of last year, so it only cost me $100.

Yes, 03/04 is the magic month for BT. Some builds in that month have it, some don't. As soon as you get to 04/04 you are in the clear on BT. As for MP3s, the belief is that yes, some time in April we will get CIP V16.x that will support MP3's. That is the current plan.

 

I would go with the color but make sure if you do go with the black interior make sure they change the door seals. During the Nov. 04 build (according to my SA) they started installing the new door seals that do not make the noises. I was told my car missed by 2 weeks. They installed them a couple of weeks ago.
