I am a very happy about owning a 530i. It is my first BMW. I was very pleased overall, but now I have discovered something very unusual.
The side panels from the back bumper seem to be loose!!??

I am not sure why this has happened, but the side panels are loose on both sides, in exactly the same way. I have taken some pictures, I will try to link them here.

I really want to get this fixed, by myself or by the BMW dealer. I still have a year worth of warranty. But I think I really need to come up with something with this. I have no idea, again, why these panels are like this. Basically, I found out that if I use some minor force I can pull them out of place, so the front edge of the panel really sticks out. This is happening in both sides of the car.

I would not like this to ruin my first experience with this awesome car. I think this is definitively not normal for this kind of car. Everything else seems to be in perfect order. Any ideas? Thanks to all in advance.

has it been in an accident before?

you can buy the brackets and have them replaced, there worth about 30 bucks each,

or its possible that there was a mtec bumper installed and when they replced it with the cars original bumper, they never replaced the brackets, because there different.

Ah!, I did not know that was a burned xenon bulb! It did look odd on the picture. I guess that is covered under the initial warranty. I will try to get that fixed.

About that bumper: my car recntly got "attacked" by a snow plow in the area of the rear left 1/4 panel and rear bumper, so I'm fresh from the "how does the bumper not break on my Bimmer?" school.

My body shop dude showed me that the bumpers on e60 mount on sliders that allow a certain amount of slack front to rear. However, it is obvious that your bumper is missing some mounts, because lateral slack is barely perceptible even on my car after the hit (before its fixed). I'm not sure what the bolts that you purchased are, but I would look for assembly instructions of the rear bumper online (or at a bookstore, actually - I hear, Bentley books are pretty handy) and go over the entire assembly myself. Unless, of course, you're willing to let your stealer take you for a few hundred bucks on this one

in either case, GL with the repair. As for the pics of the bumper assembly, I might be able to get them for you in a day or two, if mine is not fixed yet - going over there friday to check the progress, will try to take a few shots with my phone camera.
